Answers to Questions about Dental HMO Plans

Q. Are there any waiting periods on this plan?

While there may be an employer-imposed waiting period that must be met before an employee is eligible to enroll, there are no waiting periods to use benefits covered by this plan.

Q. Do members need to select a provider before they enroll?

Yes, members enrolling in a California or Texas Dental HMO plan must include their selected General Dentist for each enrollee. Enrollment forms that do not include provider selection will be considered incomplete and may delay access to care.

Q. Does everyone have to see the same dentist?

Each family member may select his or her own general dentist from our directory. To select a different dentist for a family member, include their selections on the enrollment form or if already enrolled, select a new dentist using the provider locator feature on www.yourdentalplan.com/bhp.

Q. How do members change dentists?

Your employees and their dependents may change the dentist they had selected at any time by using the dental locator feature on www.yourdentalplan.com/bhp. change in provider selections will take effect on the 1st of the following month.

Q. What if an employee needs to see a specialist?

If the employee or dependent needs to see a dental specialist for care, the visit must be pre-authorized by BEST Health Plans. The patient's general dentist will complete and submit the pre-authorization on the patient's behalf. Once approved, the patient may make an appointment with the referred participating specialist and begin his or her treatment.

Q. What if an employee needs emergency care?

The Advantage Dental HMO plan provides coverage for emergency care and all of our contracted General Dentists provide emergency dental services 24/7.

The employee should refer to the plan's Evidence of Coverage, which explains what to do when emergency care is needed.

Q. What if I have more questions about my organization's plan?
